The human body is the physical part of man. It was made to enable him to live and interact with his physical environment and subdue it. The body is the earthly nature of man.
The human body is the material, visible or tangible aspect of the man. It was made out of dust. Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being/soul. Genesis 2:7. The body is also capable of reproducing its kind or multiplying. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Genesis 1:28.
The human body is the first thing you see when you meet a person for the first time. So we say I met a tall man, a fat lady, short, handsome, young, fair or dark in complexion man or woman. Then after you speak to the person, observe or relate with the person for some time, you get to know him or her also from the inside. In other words, you get to meet the person’s inner man (soul). This is when you can say he or she is God-fearing, kind, generous, intelligent, smart, wicked, rude, selfish, liar, cheat etc. The human body is that part of us that is responsible for our five traditional senses:

  1. Smell
  2. Touch
  3. Taste
  4. Sight
  5. Hearing

The human body is only temporal. It grows and changes naturally in appearance. The body dies, it grows weak, and it can fail at any time and cannot be trusted. So far as you are human with flesh and blood, you will have some flaws and challenges in your flesh. It could be a health issue, sin issue or an unwanted desire. The human body is the pack, case, container or house in which the human spirit and soul are encased.
Other expressions the Bible uses for the body (flesh) are Natural man, Human nature, Carnal man, Earthly nature, Old self, Body of sin, Earthly body.
